As most people with access to the internet or any other sort of news source is probably aware David Bowie passed away on Monday of this week after a battle with cancer. Bowie is acclaimed as one of the most influential artists in history. His career was marked by adaptation and innovation in the form of his various personas. From Ziggy Stardust to Thin White Duke, Bowie was an entertainer like no other. He was a pioneer of the glam rock genre and influenced many in the punk rock genre. He was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, and was able to watch, through perpetual reinvention, his career evolve and span over the next two decades. His final album, Blackstar, was released on his 69th birthday, two days before his death. His producer has stated that he created the album as a farewell, and the release of the video for Lazarus on the album appears to be just that. Lyrics of the song seem to say everything fans of the legendary singer, songwriter, musician and actor needed to say. “Look up here, I’m in heaven.” Rest in paradise Ziggy, and for those of us still here to enjoy check out Lazarus and Blackstar ASAP.
